overnighting in Calais: transfers

We are considering travel in early April 2014 from London to Dover (train), then taking the ferry to Calais, overnighting in Calais, then taking the train to Paris the next day. Per one source, this is probably more scenic and less expensive, but more complicated and time-consuming than the Eurostar or air travel. With that as context,

1. How difficult/easy is it to hail a taxi from the ferry terminal at Calais (not sure what time we will arrive) to get to our B&B and to get a taxi from our B&B to the train station?

2. Does this journey (train to Dover, ferry to Calais) become more difficult on weekends than weekdays?

3. Finally, I am having trouble even booking a train or ferry on-line for the April time frame. Perhaps it is too soon?

Thank you in advance.

I don't see how that can possibly be cheaper than Eurostar, by the time you have factored in the cost of trains, taxis, accommodation, meals and a ferry.....

P&O are the only ferry co to take foot passengers on that route, and only during daylight hours.

There is a shuttle bus that goes from the Calais Ferry Port into town, that might save you a few €€ over taxi price...

Yes, you are looking way too early for booking trains, most tickets are released 3 months from date of travel, April is, um, 6 months away...

Thank you, very helpful. I am also finding out that there are apparently no direct trains connecting Calais and Paris (could be wrong about this). Did not know about the 3 month booking window for train reservations - appreciate that.

There is public transport, including free Navette services between Calais Ville station (the one in town) and Calais Frethun (the one outside town from where the fast services to Paris go). Allow plenty of time.

More info on Calais public transport and taxis from this webpage (it's in English):

Agree that unless you want to experience the ferry crossing and see the WhiteCliffs that the Eurostar train from London to Paris would be a lot simpler and faster.
