trains to nevers etc

Is the TGV much more expensive than the TEOZ and the Intercites, and which of the two latter is cheaper? Intercites seems easier to use as it needs no booking and so allows for flexibility. Thanks.

The cost of train travel in France (except on local TER trains) depends on how far ahead you book. For the best prices, book direct with the train operator as far ahead as possible. Tickets go on sale 3 months before travel, and the cheapest tickets often sell out quickly. Prices keep going up as the travel date gets closer.

You can get train times and costs, and make bookings, in English at www.tgv-europe.com/en but use Antarctic as the "Ticket collection country" in the first screen to avoid being transferred to RailEurope, which has higher prices and does not list all the trains. For notes on online booking, see www.nickbooth.id.au/Tips/FrenchTrain.htm

The direct trains between Paris and Nevers are all Intercities and leave from Paris Bercy. The Teoz brand has now been dropped and TGVs do not operate on that line, there is a rouing that can be booked using the TGV to St Pierre des Corps, but it then involves two local trains and takes longer overall.
