Where to have lunch in Pyrenees

We will be staying in the Agens area and thought about travelling by car to the Pyrenees for lunch in Spain and then a bit of supermarket shopping and filling the car with fuel before returning to Agens. As it will be a day trip I realise we will really only have chance to pop across the border into Spain, do lunch, shop and then return. Does anyone have ideas of the the best place to cross the Pyrenees into Spain and do what we want?.

We live just to the east of Agen, and make at least an annual trip down to Spain to do exactly the same.

We used to do the route from Agen down through Lectour, Auch, Lannemezan and then through the Pyrenees to Bagneres de Luchon

The last few times, we have decided it might be longer but ultimately quicker to go to Toulouse on the motorway and then double back to St Gaudens, and again onto Bagneres.

We can be in Bagneres for coffee and maybe a trip up on the cable car to the top of the mountains. After that we head over the mountains to Bozost in Spain, which takes about 20 minutes.

Plenty of places to have lunch in Bozost, and a lovely (smallish) supermarket on the right just as you are coming into the village with parking right outstide. Although small, it is swings and roundabouts on pricing compared to the big supermarket on the main road just before the border, heading to St Gaudens. Some things cheaper, some more expensive, but friendly service and we prefer to do most of our shopping there and then maybe stop at the big place for anything we couldn't get.

I would estimate 2 1/2 hours from Agen to Bagneres de Luchon on the motorway.

Fayselle, thank you very much for your detailed posting. Looks like we will leave early so we can do coffee in Bagneres and the cable car trip before heading to Bozost.

Just remembered going in September and the ski lift was shut, so have checked the opening hours:-

It is open until 9.30 - 12.30 and 1400 to 1800 until 28th August only. After that it is only open Saturday and Sunday during the afternoons.

Thank you for going the extra mile it is much appreciated. We don't arrive in Agens until Tuesday the 30th of August so the ski lift may not be an option for this trip, will keep it in mind for next year though. Will still try your route and stop for coffee in Bagneres before going on to Bozost for lunch / shopping.
