Volterra in off season

My wife and I are taking a trip to Florence and Tuscany in mid November. After Florence and Siena, we thought we would take a day or two to drive through Tuscany and thought we would stay a night in Volterra. However, it seems like most of the hotels we've checked in Volterra have no rooms available and are closed for the season. Since it will be after the main tourism season, would we be better just driving through and staying the night in a larger town? With so many hotels, I wondered if any sights, shops, etc. would also be closed for the season.

Most of the hotels will be closed by mid-November, but severals are still open. Normally the hotel Nazionale, Hotel Villa Nencini, Foresteria as well as the La Locanda stay open during winter time. Shops are normally open, some might be closed for holidays. But there are no shops that close the whole winter time (as in other cities). Volterra has 12.000 inhabitants and they stay open for the people from Volterra during winter time. Same goes for restaurants.

Volterra has its charme also during winter-months. But it might be a bit chilly, so pack accordingly.

One of my all time favorite memories of my visit to Tuscany in November a few years back is visiting Volterra. It was a very windy and cold day but I absolutely loved walking around Volterra. I went down one of the little winding streets and saw the most spectacular sunset with the most incredibly awesome scenery. I bought a little alabaster clock that sits in my living room and is a great keepsake and brings back fond memories of my visit.
