We are a couple who hope to spend 4 nights in Val Gardena in early September after a long stay further south in Italy. Our main interests for this trip are good food and moderately strenuous hiking on the Seiseralm. This is our first time in the area.
We are thinking we might like to stay slightly outside Ortisei. We need to be able to get to where we are staying by public transport from Bolzano. Ideal budget is less than 150euros per night for the two of us if we go with a hotel with half-board. We tend to be frugal overall with a splash-out near the end. We value quiet and authentic places. We travel light.
I am weighing the options for us: apartments, rifugi, hotels with hiking guides and services. We are quite independent but it might be nice to set out on one guided hike at the start. Should we walk from one inn to another or stay in one place?
- is it possible to walk from rifugio to rifugio in this area? Recommendations?
- for hotels/inns, can you recommend a place that fits our criteria (especially the good food)?
- any other thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks for your help...my mind is boggled by the options.
