san remo or ventimiglia as a stopover?

We will be driving back to Florence from Provence in April and are looking for a good place to spend one night to break up the drive. Ventimiglia and San Remo seem like good options geographically but are they worth a stop? (one night, dinner, half a day sightseeing the next day?) Would welcome recommendations, and suggestions for a hotel at either place. Many thanks.

I'd advise you to stop in Ventimiglia, it offers some nice sightseeing (Balzi Rossi, Hanbury Botanic Gardens, old town). Sanremo has nothing special but two sandy beaches.

We visited Ventimiglia for the day from Nice, the town is lovely with a very good market also.As only there a few hours,we did not do much but would have liked an over night stay.
