Bus: Rome Airport to Praiano

Please advise how practical to take bus from Rome Airport (June 2011) to Praiano. If so, schedules and approximate costs please. Also any other options trains + bus ?

We will be staying in Praiano for three weeks, using it as our base, so we do not have to "rush"getting from Rome to there.

Many Thanks.

There is no bus from Rome airport (you presumably mean Fiumicino) to Praiano.

In June, there are buses from Roma Tiburtina bus station (next to Roma Tiburtina train station) to Positano, the town before Praiano. Schedules and prices will not be posted before March or April 2011. Google >Marozzi bus< and >Curreri bus<. The FR1 regional train goes from Fiumicino to Roma Tiburtina.

Many thanks for your quick response. Would the train plus bus be the logical alternative? You are correct it is Fiumicino

There are any number of ways to get from Fiumicino to Praiano:

1. FR1 train to Roma Tiburtina, bus to Positano, local or regional bus to Praiano.

2. Express train to Roma Termini, train to Naples, different train to Sorrento, regional bus to Praiano.

3. Express train to Termini, train to Salerno, regional bus to Amalfi, another regional bus to Praiano.

4. Express train to Termini, train to Salerno, boat to Positano, local or regional bus to Praiano.

5. Private driver from Fiumicino or Naples or Salerno to Praiano.

For *current* schedules (they will be different next June), look at

There is a direct (no connections) Marozzi bus from Roma Tiburtina station to Praiano daily at 7:00 a.m. from June through September, which arrives in Praiano at 11:45 a.m. One-way fare is 20.50 Euros. This would be the easiest way to go, particularly for the physically challenged. HOWEVER, it departs at 7:00 a.m., making it impossible if arriving by plane at FCO airport that same day.

Consequently, here are your other travel options using public transportation:

OPTION 1 (most common, best frequency of service):

1. Trenitalia train from FCO airport to Roma Termini: 31 minutes travel time, fare 14 Euros, frequency every 30 minutes;

2. Trenitalia IC, ES or AV train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale: 120/105/70 minutes travel time, fare 20.50/34/44 Euros. Frequent departures;

3. Circumvesuviana commuter train from Napoli Centrale to Sorrento: 65 minutes travel time, fare 3.40 Euros, frequency every 30 minutes;

4. SITA bus from Sorrento Circumvesuviana station to Praiano: 75 minutes travel time, fare 3.60 Euros, frequency every 60 minutes.

OPTION 2:

1. Same as above

2. Trenitalia IC or ES train from Roma Termini to Salerno: 180 or 150 minutes travel time, fare 23.50 or 37 Euros, frequent trains;

3. TRAVELMAR (Cooperativa Sant'Andrea) ferry boat from Salerno-Concordia Dock (400 meters from Salerno train station) to Amalfi: 35 minutes travel time, fare 6 Euros, limited frequency, subject to cancellation for bad weather, operates April through October only;

4. SITA bus from Amalfi to Praiano: 25 minutes travel time, fare 2.40 Euros, frequency every 60 minutes.

OPTION 3 (very limited frequency):

1. Trenitalia regionale airporter train from FCO airport to Tiburtina Station: 45 minutes travel time, fare 8 Euros, frequency every 15 minutes (every 30 minutes on Sundays);

2. Marozzi or Curreri bus from Tiburtina Station to Sorrento: 3.5 to 4.0 hours travel time, fare 17.50 (Marozzi) or 16 (Curreri) Euros, very limited frequency;

3. SITA bus from Sorrento to Praiano as above.

OPTION 4 (very limited frequency):

1. Trenitalia train from FCO airport to Roma Termini as above;

2. Trenitalia from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale as above;

3. Taxi to Naples Molo Beverello: 15 minutes travel time, fare approx. 15 Euros;

4. Metro del Mare hydrofoil to Positano: travel times vary, fare 15 Euros, very limited frequency from mid-June through October 10 only, subject to cancellation for bad weather;

5. SITA bus from Positano to Praiano: 25 minutes travel time, fare 2.40 Euros, frequency every 60 minutes.

There are yet other possible itineraries, but no better than the four outlined above (plus, of course, the direct Marozzi bus from June through September at 7:00 a.m.).

CORRECTION to my previous posting no. 4 above: under OPTION 4, point 4, the Metro del Mare service is expected to commence operations next year in the spring (rather than in mid-June as was the case this year). Travellers interested in taking this maritime crossing from Naples to the Amalfi Coast should consult the Metro del Mare website next year in early April, and again shortly before departure.

www.metrodelmare.net

Fares and schedules quoted in my posting no. 4 above are believed to be accurate as of the date of posting, but are not guaranteed to be correct, since they are taken from internet sources which are not always current. Travel times are accurate but not guaranteed to be exact, and are always subject to travel conditions, delays and other unforeseen circumstances. Also, fares, schedules and routings are subject to change and should always be verified prior to start of travel. The foregoing is general information, and should not be relied upon in the absence of individualized travel planning.

Although things here change slightly each year, if that's now fairly definite then it may help your planning to gather a little research material?

Depends on where you'll want to visit, but some of these autumn timetables may be useful (and hard to get later on!)...

One of the Amalfi Coast boat service operators...

Hydrofoils - Naples/Sorrento etc

Two for the buses:

and...

And, if you've the patience, some operators that don't have PDFs you can simply download....

More AC boats

The Metro del Mare hydrofoils (details for the services that ended on 10th September have yet to be deleted!)

Don't leave it too long, or there may be nothing - or the winter schedule - at the far end of those links!
