Positano in mid- to late-October

Hi everyone,

We are planning a mother-daughter trip in and around the Amalfi Coast from 20th to 28th October 2013. Is this a good time to visit? Will the weather be fine? We just want to relax, walk around, and take photos.

My next question is: what is the best way to get around? We want to take day trips to Amalfi, Ravello, Praiano and other towns during the day while staying in a hotel in Positano for a week. I understand that these towns are only 20 mins away by bus and that seems to be the best option. However, I am not being able to find a SITA bus schedule for the Amalfi Coast in October...

Do ferries operate from Positano to the abovementioned towns in October? If so, which is the more cost-effective option?

Thanks a lot!!!

Ferries between Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi, Salerno and Capri ordinarily operate through the end of October, subject to cancellation for bad weather.

The SITA buses operate year round (usually at hourly intervals), and can get you nearly everywhere of tourist interest along the Amalfi Coast.

October can be beautiful. Was there Oct 10-17, 2011. Had a few 80F days with swimming and sunbathing. Also had a rain day but even that was great. Walking, ducking into shops and stopping for a bite will be the perfect things to do. Do bring layers including a light rain jacket and/or umbrella. SITA schedules can be found at www.sitasudtrasporti.it just scroll to bottom of page to the Orari Campania section. The Salerno-Amalfi and the Amalfi-Sorrento schedules give most of what you'll need. Other schedules are there as well such as Amalfi-Ravello and the less-touristed routes. The current schedules are dated thru mid-Sept but Oct will be similar and should be on the website fairly soon. Positano will be a nice base for your trip. Enjoy!
