Train from Rome Airport to Orvieto

Does anyone know if upon landing at the Rome airport you can get a train at the airport to Orvieto. We would be arriving from San Franciso and we are wondering if we could train directly to Orvieto, stay the night, and get the rental car the next day. Any suggestions? Thanks

You'd have to take the Leonardo Express to either Rome Termini or Rome Tiburtina and change trains for the train to Orvieto

You can probably rent a car in Orvieto the next day. Many people feel it's safer to take the train on the day you arrive, when you might be suffering from jet lag, and pick up a car the following day. Check out AutoEurope, http://www.autoeurope.com/

There are two different trains at the airport. The Leonardo express goes directly (nonstop) to Termini station, where you can change to trains to Orvieto, and the FR1 train goes to Tiburtina station (after several other stops). It's a little quicker, but costs more, to transfer at Termini (about 15 minutes time difference and around 25 euros versus around 12 euros). This is because the FR1 makes more stops, and usually the trains that stop at Tiburtina station going to Orvieto are mostly regional trains, which also make a lot of stops, whereas the trains connecting through Termini are mostly IC or ICPlus trains. The ICPLus trains require a reservation whereas the reservation is optional but advisable on the IC trains. The prices of the two types of train differ slightly.
