We stayed in the Politian Apartment in Montepulciano in June of 2008. We had traveled from Rome and had spent many days walking all over Rome, so when we arrived in Montepulciano we were just ready to have a few days of pure relaxation. The apartment was absolutely amazing. I had seen pictures on the politian website, and they seemed almost too good to be true. But when we arrived, it definitely met if not exceed my expectations. The view from the living room (and bedroom) was amazing, hills of Tuscany. The apartment view from the kitchen and the bathroom, which I don't think is on the website, is a backyard garden. When we were there the roses were blooming and it was just spetacular.
The living room was a terrific place to sit and relax and read a great book with the Tuscan birds singing in the background. (Also, the apartment had a nice collection of CD's to listen to, mostly jazz and classical. Billie Holiday to Bach)
The only drawback to this apartment was the bed. It wasn't the most comfortable. It's tough to judge, because most of the beds we slept on in Italy were not as comfortable as you would find in the states, so it depends on your taste. There also were quite a few stairs and no elevator, so if you have trouble with stairs it might be a problem. It definitely wasn't an issue for us. We also didn't have a car, and it would have been nice because it wasn't the easiest place to get to by bus. It would have been an easy drive to near by towns. If we stay there again, we would definitely rent a car.
We stayed in five different towns (and five different apartments) while we were in Italy and this apartment was by far the best place we stayed.
