They are regional trains, so no need to book ahead. Use a date 7 or 8 days from now to get an idea of the schedules & prices. For instance, Montecatini to Firenze S.M. Novella (Florence) takes about an hour and it's 5.50 Euro. Don't forget to validate your ticket in the machine on the platform.

Florence to Pisa is a little over an hour, 8.70 Euro is memory serves. The train station for Siena is outside the walls, there's a bus from Florence that stops within the walls.

Siena too far. Visit Pistoia, big market Wed and Sat. Also Viareggio on the coast is under an hour. Pisa a little over an hour away, change of trains in Lucca.

I think you have to go to Florence first then to Siena.....very time consuming, but cheap. Also the train to Florence very easy, about ? 40 mins, I think, and inexpensive. Buy your museum tix in advance to avoid long lines (Viator or directly from the museum website). For reasonable trip to Siena from Montecatini try "Come and See Italy" tours .
