Help! Palermo to Panarea

In Sicily now. Did not account for off season. We spen 2 days in favignana and 2 in Palermo. Worthwhile to see aeolians? Pantarea vs lipari in the off season? How on earth do we get there? Should we go straight to Siracusa instead? Is Siracusa a must see?

So many questions.. Hard to be spontaneous. Any help ASAP would be incredibly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Benvenuta in Sicilia SFKnowledge!

The crossings to the Aeolians are still on winter schedule – It’s early in the season for the Aeolians, Lipari more active than Panarea. May is a lovely time to visit, but given the inconvenience of schedules, and the convenience of the direct bus from Palermo to Siracusa, and all that Siracusa offers, head to Palermo – Interbus runs the direct service.

If you were to decide on the Aeolians, take the train from Palermo to Milazzo and then the AST bus from Milazzo’s train station to Milazzo’s port. Expect delays with the train….

Buona Fortuna!

You've confirmed what we suspected. I will miss the aeolians. Any tips on staying in Siracusa vs ortigia?

Thank you so much!

Ortigia is ancient and Siracusa's charming and historic centre - You would appreciate staying on Ortigia. You'll find many accommodations, some lovely B&B accommodations as well as hotels.

Not to feel cheated with Siracusa....
