Driving From Bergamo

We are driving to Livigno from Bergamo on Friday the 10th March leaving at about 20.00

Via Michelin tells me to go into Switzerland and come down through the tunnel but I understand that shuts at night.

Is it better to go via Tirano and Bormio or up the S29 via La Rosa.

Also from Bergamo to Tirano is it quickest to go via Lecce and Sondrio or to take the SS42 via Seriate (looks shorter)?

I have driven from Livigno to Bergamo a few times and have always gone the Tirano Lecco Sondrio route.....this seems to be the way the buses go too. Not sure about the Switzerland route

Good luck! It's quite a tough drive as there are lots of twists and turns but you'll be fine. You'll need about 4-5 hours to get to Bergamo

You don't have any choice at this time of night, you have to go via Lecco - Sondrio - Tirano - Bormio - Livigno. The tunnel shuts at 11pm on Saturday night so you won't make it & the Forcola pass that allows access from Switzerland is closed during the winter.

Remember to have snow chains on board.

Yes without a doubt the Sondrio, Bormio route.

Look out for Italys smallest comune trepalle just before you enter Livigno.

Always makes me laugh thinking what the natives are like-----it's name translated means----3 balls!!!!
