suggested guide books?

We are planning a week long trip to Sicily this summer, staying in Giardini Naxos /Taormina area. When we've traveled in the past we've used Rick Steeve's guide books, but I dont believe he has one covering Sicily. Are there any recommendations that people have found to be the most helpful for the area?

Welcome to Sicily kapntravel!

A guidebook preference is very subjective and personal....

If you like the Rick Steves’ guidebooks, you would probably best appreciate Lonely Planet, and then perhaps the Rough Guide.

The Michelin Green Guide and the Sicily Blue Guide are exceptional!

We have used Rough Guide to Sicily (it has several editions, the lastest is the 8th) and Blue Guide Sicily, 8th edition also. We have found the Rough Guide extremely useful for directional landmarks and descriptions, restaurant recommendations and general information. The Blue Guide leans more toward the historical and archaeological aspects, but both have been extremely useful over the years.

The Rough Guide is comprehensive, covering more obscure areas that other guidebooks don’t cover, but the Rough Guide isn’t updated frequently enough - I would always purchase the most current edition, but time passes between new editions.
