Rome transfers to Civitavecchia port/cruise advice

Hello, our family of 4 who have never been to Europe and planning a trip for our 25th anniversary. Me, husband (he's a nervous traveler -- we always have to be there EARLY!!!!) and son 16, daughter 13. We would like to fly to Rome a few days ahead to see the city and then transfer to Civitavecchia to our cruise. Since this is new to us, and to Carnival, I'd like to ask the experts:

- Who do you recommend to use as transfers to Civitavecchia form Rome?

- How much is the trip usually?

- How long does it take? How far away is Civitavecchia from Rome?

Whatever advice you can share is much appreciated.

Thank you!

we have just done a cruise to civitavecchia and we caught the train in to rome, you can catch the train from st pietro or the main station back to civitavecchia very easy, trains run about every hour. the port is less than 30mins from the station. the train journey is about 1 hour and costs about 12 dollars

Trip from the Spanish Steps area is about an hour. I would recommend Bob's Limo. Can be booked on the web. Timely, very professional, felt very safe. No hassles, did not have to touch our bags. Utilized from airport to hotel and from hotel to ship.

If your husband is a nervous traveler you may want to book a driver approx. 70 euro/vechicle.

A much less expensive way is to take the train from Termini to Civitavecchia port costing around 6 euro/person and then taking a taxi from port to dock in around 1 hour and 10minutes. You can walk to the dock but depend on where your ship is docked this may be a quick 10 minute walk or much longer. Website for train schedule and pricing is www.trenitalia.com
