Transfer Tour from Rome Airport to Civitavecchia

Hi! I need some help.

My mom and I are heading to Rome next week for a cruise. We booked a tour through the cruise line to get us from the airport to the ship. The tour would show us some sights and give us about 45 minutes to see St. Peter's Square. I just received word that the tour has been cancelled and am wondering if anyone has information about any similar options for tours that will drop us off at the port. An organized tour is our best option because I don't know what we would do with our luggage otherwise. Thanks in advance for your help!

It would help if you said which company it was so that people can avoid recommending the same one, given that it presumably is fully booked on your date. However I would quibble with your use of the word "organised" - that usually refers to a group tour, but as far as your luggage is concerned, there is no reason why it could not be a private tour+transfer - in fact it may have to be as it is unlikely that the transfer company would (without the intervention of the cruise company) put people together who are arriving at the same time at FCO and departing at the same time from Civitavecchia.

I think what you mean is that you think this has to be organised as a transfer + tour with the same company, and assuming that neither is the company that cancelled, you could organise this privately through e.g.

- Italy Private Excursions: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Revie… or

- Civitatours: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Revie…

However, this isn't the only way in which you could deal with luggage: you could also take the Leonardo Express train to Termini station, leave bags in left-luggage there, do a tour/ visit the places you want to (St. Peters Square is easily reached by metro from Termini) and then return to Termini as departure point for a separately-booked transfer/shuttle to Civitavecchia, e.g. (shared shuttle) https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Revie… or (private transfer) https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Revie… - or indeed either of the 2 companies mentioned that also do tours.

Another alternative for dealing with luggage would be to use this company http://www.bon-bags.com/sito/en/ (reviews: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187791-i22-k7337260-Bon_Bags_review-Rome_Lazio.html) to take your luggage directly from the airport to your ship, leaving you free to visit Rome, and travel to Civitavecchia, however you wish.

The embark tour was booked through Royal Carribean. I had already booked and paid for it, but it was cancelled due to not enough people signing up. So now I'm back to square one. Thank you so much for your response! It is incredibly helpful to know I have other options.

There is no need to validate train tickets that are purchased on www.trenitalia.com since the printout has the time and destination of the train. Validation is required for tickets purchased at the embarking station.

Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to Civitavecchia requires a train change at Trastevere and costs 11 Euros one way for 2nd class (ordinary) or 22 Euros for first class. You choose the time, and have 3 hours after the scheduled time if your flight is delayed.

BEWARE: Civitavecchia has 3 long stairs and no escalator or elevator. Pack lightly or eat your Wheaties. It's hard to find help to lift the luggage.
