Rome to Tuscany near Castellina train then renting a car....

We will be traveling from Rome to Tuscany, where we will stay for a week in a villa 1.5km from Castellina in Chianti.

We have to check into our villa btwn 5pm-7pm only, so after we check out of our hotel in Rome we have found a train that will get us into Castellina just before 5:00 pm. We will then need to rent a car....does anyone know if there is a car rental near the train station in Castellina? We could take the train into somewhere else in Tuscany (florence, ect...) but we are afraid that we will not have enough time to find our villa if we do this, all of the trains get in later and may not give us enough time to get a car and drive to the villa (as I am sure we will get lost, so we need to allow time for that as well). Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi Jess and Matt: I am also checking on travel from Rome to Tuscany (honeymooning there May 27 thru June 8). Are you setting this trip up yourself or using someone. I will be watching this site to see what kind of feedback you receive! When are you going?

Best of luck!

We will also be traveling from Rome to Castellina to stay at a villa approximately a mile from town. Our travel dates are May 23 through June 2. We are thinking of taking a train from Rome to Florence airport and renting a car out of the Florence airport. From there we would drive to Castellina. Does this seem like a logical approach? Since Castellina is off the beaten path we were doubtful that we could rent a car in such a small village. We have rented a car from Florence before and it was a bit hairy trying to get out of the city, hence the idea to rent from the airport. Any ideas would be appreciated! This is only our second trip to Italy so were are newbies! Grazie mille!

Thanks for the note! Actually, you are way ahead of us, this is our FIRST time there. We were thinking about flying into Rome, staying a couple of days, renting a car and driving to Tuscany , then to Florence. Is it hard to drive through these big cities, since you've been there and done that already/ Are you doing this trip yourself? We are talking to a travel agent because all this seems a little overwhelming. Are you finding the hotel prices reasonable?

And, where is Castellina?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Happy travels!

Susan
