Transportaion from Rome to Castlellina, Chiati

We will be traveling from Rome to Castlellina and plan to take the train and then rent a car to drive to our villa. What time do we need to catch our train to make it to Castelllina to rent a car to drive to our villa?

There is no train to Castellina in Chianti, nor is there any car rental there. You would have to take a train to Florence and pick up a rental car there. The fast trains from Rome to Florence take about 90 minutes.

Most rental car offices in Rome (apart from the airport offices) are opened from 9:30-12:30 THEN CLOSED, then opened from 3:30 -6:30 or 7pm. I suggest that you rent a car somewhere easy on the train line. A good spot may be CHIUSI which has a Hertz, an Avis and a Europecar office near the train station. From Rome Termini Station, trains at 7:30, 8:25, 9:13 will get to to Chiusi in time to rent the car. Or 12:35 which gets you there at 14:06 which means have some lunch while you wait for the car rental offices to open: il Punto**,one of my favorites, Trattoria Porsena,or Bar Cavalino Bianco(sandwiches),or Bar in the station)sandwiches. OR13:13 from Roma arrives at 14:56 or 15:13 arrives at 16:59. From Chiusi to the A1 is about 1/2 hour & then another hour to your destination. While Siena is closer to your destination, it involves change of trains (in Chiusi) to reach Siena
