bardonecchia to Milano Linate train

Advice please on train to Milano from Bardonecchia. We need to be in Milano Linate at 10.30 am and would like to do all our travelling on one day.

We feel that travel by road at that time in the morning might be a little unpredictable.

See http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html for your options on dates before December 12, after which timetables change and are not yet available. I think you ought to leave on the first train at 5.55, as in this case you should still arrive in time in Milan if the train from Bardonecchia is late-running and you miss the planned connection in Turin.

Click the 'all solutions' button on the site to see a cheap option on slower trains which takes you to Milan Centrale station, scheduled to arrive at 9.45. Airport buses to Linate leave from this station.

Otherwise, the fast trains give you a choice of Porta Garibaldi station (8.30 or 9.30 arrival) or Rogoredo station 20 minutes later. From Porta Garibaldi, you can take the Metro green line two stops to Centrale and get the airport bus, or else get a taxi all the way. Rogoredo is about half the distance away from Linate (though I think with no easy connecting public transport to Linate) and only about a 15 minute ride by taxi, so in theory would be better for a taxi connection - but I do not know how available taxis are at that station. Someone in Milan should know better.

Or you could risk a rental car and leave around the same time as the first train, which does leave plenty of time in hand for jams.
