Trains to Arezzo from Rome or Florence?

Hi,

Planning to travel to Arezzo for the weekend of the Joust in September 2014. What has the most / easiest train links to Arezzo. Is it Rome or Florence. The answer will determine where we fly in to from the UK. Looking for the shortest over all journey. Any advice much appreciated. Can anyone help.?

Regards.

www.trenitalia.com

Click first on the English flag and remember to write something in the hour box.

Rome is Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina, Florence is Firenze S. M. Novella. I think it's about 1 hour or 1 hour and half from Florence.

Arezzo is much closer to Florence (88 km, via the traditional line - not HSR) that to Rome (229 Km), although is reachable also from Rome without train's change, by the cheaper "interregionale" trains; then overall is more easily reached from Florence.

I hope you plan on staying in Arezzo for the event as it goes very late into the evening. The joust normally does not start until 8pm or so.

Shortest journey would be from Florence

Florence is closer,so true! If you fly from UK check flights to Pisa too, 2h by train to Arezzo ( switch in Florence).

Please..spend few days in Arezzo and province..so worthy!!!

The Hotel Continentale is right up the street from the station, and here is the restaurant not to miss which is two blocks away. They do a very brisk business and take no reservations.

Thank you very much to one and all. This info is great. We are going on a 4 day trip arriving Friday from London as early as possible leaving Monday morning. I have been to see the joust before but had a car that time, which was in paid parking and unused for 3 days - a lesson learnt there. I will be taking friends back this time and do not want to waste any time. Which of the airports (Rome,Florence or Pisa) has the quickest transfer or link to the trains. Also can anyone give a guide as to train frequency, If lots on a regular day there may be nothing to worry about ( I will check out www.trenitalia.com as advised). Any extra info here folks? Thanks again for your swift replies.

Hi!

There are shuttle buses from Florence Airport to the railway station every 30min - from 6.00 a.m. to 23.30 and it's a 20min journey roughly.

ryanair.com/en/…140124-BGY_CLOSURE_EN-GB

You'll probably find more flights to Pisa. There you'll find Terravion buses to Florence railway station: they leave about every hour and take about an hour. Otherwise there's a railway station outside the airport. Take the train to Pisa central and then another train to Florence.

Bye :)

If you're flying Ryanair to Rome you'll land in Roma Ciampino. Here's the link for buses to Rome railway station:

Bye :)

If flying to Pisa, there are no longer trains from the airport as suggested in post 7. Instead, there are direct shuttle buses to Pisa Centrale station every ten minutes taking around five minutes. It would probably be slightly easier to go this way than to transfer between the bus station and train station in Florence, even though these are very near to each other.
