Zermatt to Alba then Tirano

I am planning a trip to Zermatt, Swiss then a wine tour in Italy (somewhere near, such as Piedmont, Alba) for 2-3 days, follow by a Bernina Express from Tirano to go north. Can someone let me know how do i go about booking the trains connecting Zermatt, Alba and Tirano please?

You book Zermatt to Milano Centrale on http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html

And Milano Centrale to Alba on www.trenitalia.com - click the British flag at the top first for English.

The journey will take at least seven hours.

Use the Trenitalia site for Alba-Tirano.

Thanks! Perilizia. Would it be easier to rent a car from Zermatt to Alba instead? Would you know how long is the journey and if i can drop the car in Tirano?

One way rentals into another country are very expensive, and it is unlikely that you can drop a car in Tirano - Sondrio is probably the nearest, or even Lecco for some companies.

For journey times see www.viamichelin.com - note that the times assume no rest stops, to delays caused by roadworks and traffic problems, and a driving speed approaching the speed limit.
