valley of the temples from town centre

I'm going to agrigento by public transport tomorrow and wonder how to get to the valley of temples from my hotel. is it too far to walk there? (maybe rain!) and are there buses this week? (I went to villa romana today and had to do a rushed trip by taxi as there are no buses out of season!) thanks!

Welcome to Sicily serena99!

The buses from Piazza Armerina to the Villa Romana del Casale are seasonal - Dal 1 maggio al 30 settembre un bus navetta comunale chiamato Villabus collega Piazza Armerina con il sito della Villa Romana del Casale .

villaromanadelcasale.it/la-villa-romana-del-…

But Agrigento’s urbano buses run from Agrigento to the Valley of the Temples.

Prego serena99,

What day of the week?? Hopefully not a Sunday!

Public transport across Sicily’s provinces can be quite challenging.

There is no fast way....

Ragusa or Noto are the more impressive towns.

You could always travel via Catania or Catania’s airport (Aeroporto Catania), even on Sundays (DOMENICA).

You would take the SAIS Trasporti bus service from Agrigento to Catania or Catania’s airport, 3 hours.

http://www.saistrasporti.it/

Interbus runs direct bus service from Catania or Catania’s airport to Ragusa or Noto.

http://www.interbus.it/

AST also runs bus service from Catania or Catania’s airport to Ragusa or Noto.

You could also take Autolinee Sal from Agrigento to Gela (not Sundays).

http://www.autolineesal.it/

Then take the train from Gela to Ragusa (not Sundays).

Or you might consider the train service from Agrigento to Ragusa at 5+ hours if running on time (not Sundays).

You are really lucky it isn't a Sunday serena99 - Monday or Tuesday will help with your options.

Even if the route seems longer or counter-intuitive, routes that follow main transport lines are the most reliable.

And always allocate a lot of extra time to whatever a train schedule may state!

Thank you Vagabonda. Not travelling on Sundays which I understand is to be avoided across Sicily! You have been of great help. Do you have a site somewhere?

We will be visiting Palermo in early September for 7 days. We are considering taking the bus to Agrigento and visiting the Valley of the Temples. We are both well into our 70`s and wonder if the walking in Agrigento would be too strenuous for us can anybody advise. Also having arrived in Agrigento can anybody advise how to get to the Temples leaving us with a walk downhill.

Thanks, Gerry H

Prego e grazie Terry - Public transport is limited on Sundays. Some areas are only mildly impacted with fewer runs, but some areas are more significantly impacted with very little transport.

Welcome to Sicily Gerry H!

You best would know your capabilities.

You would arrive at Agrigento's bus station in town, and then take a local bus out to the Valley of the Temples.

There is walking at the Valley of the Temples, but the main walk is flat -Valle Dei Templi with a wheelchair:

Best wishes!

Thanks for that Vagabonda. We do a lot of walking and if the terrain is mainly flat it would present no problems. Is the stop that you get off the bus actually called Valley of the Temples?
