camping stopover between everett, wa and banff?

Can anyone help us find a campground between Everett, and Banff , we could cross at Sumas or Ossoyoos (Hwy.97)? We were hoping not to travel more than 4 to 5 hours the first night. One thought we had was maybe Kelowna which is a little over 5 hrs, We hope to stay the weekend of Aug. 2nd Thurs. thru SAt. Aug. 4th and be in Banff early Sun. to get a campground site since we do not have one yet. Thoughts?? Thank you! Marilyn

I think you better make reservations for campsites for both areas ASAP (a few weeks ago would have been better!), since it is a long weekend, the busiest part of the summer tourist season. Driving up at one of the Banff campsites on the Sunday and expecting to get a site will be incredibly difficult. (That's basically the middle of the long weekend - most people won't be leaving until Monday morning).

According to the BC Parks camping registration system, both BC Parks campgrounds near Kelowna (Bear Creek and Fintry) are already pretty booked up for the weekend. Bear Creek is showing sites available for Thursday, but not beyond. Fintry shows very limited availability of FCFS (first come, first served) sites. Check it out for yourselves - you can view availability at the various campsites: https:/…Home.aspx

You can find information about private campgrounds on the BC Tourism website: www.hellobc.com

HI

I would suggest Penticton which is 45 min to 1 hr north of Osoyoos.

If you do not find anything available in Penticton there are two in Kaleden - 5 mi south of Penticton.

Banbury's travelinbc.com/Banbury-Green-RV-Park-Kaleden…

and Camp-Along. http://www.campalong.com/ Camp Along installed wifi a couple of weeks ago ( i now see it on my list of networks)

Check out Holiday Park in Lake Country. 20 minutes north of Kelowna.

I'd get out of the Okanagan Valley. We had a situation a few years ago where we had a reservation in Oosoyous on the Saturday night of the August long weekend. While we were away on our two week trip, the campground called to say they had cancelled our booking. We didn't find out until a couple of nights before in Nelson.

We decided to try for Kettle River, which is about 30 minutes east of Osoyous. There are a couple of other parks in that area as well.

We left Nelson by 8 am and arrived at Rock Creek by 11 am, which is park checkout time. We were lucky and just got the one space that was vacated that morning.

If you cross at Sumas, there are several campgrounds in Manning Park and the one's on the highway are almost never full. Lightening Lakes is the popular site and difficult to get into, but the ones along the road always have vacancies.

Try for Coldspring or Mule Deer

I encourage you to consider the BC Provincial campgrounds. Very cost effective $18 - $30 per night. Heads up ... no full service. Must book 3 months in advance for the popular sites. Avoid Kaleden "Camp Along Resort" as it is set up like sardine sites... no room between sites and very hilly. We do like Sunny beach at Oliver BC - cost reasonable, quiet, great spacing between sites and on a lake for the kids.
