Restaurant recommendations please

We're coming to Pickering for a weekend mid-August. Can anyone recommend any good restaurants or pubs for meals?

We're a couple who enjoy a good meal in good surroundings.

Pickerings only "rated"restaurant is the White Swan Hotel where they have had a rosette for many years.

They also own Tuttis Grill and Pizzeria next door.

Figaros is the other Italian Restaurant in town.

The Forest and Vale Hotel also do food in restaurant and bar but what they are doing is sometimes affected by the functions they have on.

Crossways Hotel does Sunday lunch and also some early evenings

There are 2 Asian restaurants-Spice 4 U and Lalquila-we get better feedback on Spice 4 U from our guests.

There is a Chinese restaurant at the bottom of town.

Of the pubs the Black Swan, Station, Rose, Royal Oak and Bay Horse all do pub grub.

Mulberries also opens for dinner on Friday and Saturday.

We currently also have a Tapas restaurant although there is planning consent being sort for a takeaway at these premises

In general the feedback we get is fine with the view that ,in most cases, the restaurants are what people would expect to find in a small market town.

Other places to consider ,if you don't mind driving , would be the Star at Harome-Michelin star, the Anvil at Sawdon, the Fox and Hounds at Sinnington-rosette,the Plough at Fadmoor, the Appletree at Marton-Good Food Guides Pub restaurant of the year. These are more restaurants really as is Greens in Whitby.

For pub food-the Fox and Rabbit at Lockton, the Horseshoe at Levisham, the Middleton Arms.

the Blacksmiths at Lastingham, the Royal Oak at Gillamoor.

There are of course many others.

My suggestion would be to ask the hosts wherever you are staying for their recommendations and suggestions.

If you want to walk in Pickering my interpretaion of your comment "a good meal in good surroundings" would definitely suggest the White Swan.

Hope this helps
