From Hotel/B and B to gatwick.

We are australian and do not know Gatwick at all.

Will have hire car and thinking of returning to hire CO. day before and finding somewhere that provides transport to airport. We have to be there by 6AM and have bad experiences with returing cars to Heathrow(getting lost).I have read about hotels attached to North terminal. Can we walk to terminal? is somewhere else a better option. Help.

there are two hotels, linked to the Airport, thats the Hilton (South Term) & Sofitel (North Term). But there are also other options, depending on your budget. ie Yotel is physically inside the South Terminal bldg, located on the lower ground floor of the arrivals and can be booked by the hour, 4hr min i think. Then there's the Premier Inn, located just outside the North Terminal, which is easily walkable, inside 10mins; so all these options mean no transport to the apt, once you've dropped the car at the apt. Most other major hotels at Gatwick provide airport shuttle bus's via the "Hotel Hoppa" service or their own bus.

All depends how much you want to spend for a short nights stay.

I can recommend Cumberland house, they are a quality bed and breakfast very close to the airport and they will take you straight to the terminal from 5am onwards. website www.cumberlandhs.com

Clive and Carmel are really friendly. It is spotlessly clean and there is a very nice pub 2 minutes walk away for an evening meal

Thanks .Looks great and a good price. Not many offer transfers before 6AM so this is definitely worth considering.

If you stay in one of the very many guest houses in and around Massetts Road in Horley, a lot of them have a minibus and will drive you to the terminal. Alternatively, the Fastway bus service runs along the road quite frequently and is a lot cheaper and less hassle than getting a taxi. It starts running very early in the morning. You can get off at the North Terminal, even if you might be flying from the South Terminal ... there is a free transit between the two. (The bus does go to South Terminal, but if you go there you will have to carry your luggage up flights of stairs into the back of the terminal transit station).
