I.O.M Stag Do TT 2014 Nightlife Douglas

Hi all,

We are a Stag group of 13 booked for TT weekend Thursday 29th May until Sunday 1st June. We are staying in Douglas and are looking for advice on good venues for nightlife in Douglas. During the day we will be mainly watching the practice and racing but we would like some good fun in the evenings.

Can anyone recommend nightclubs, bars or casinos please? We will likely be in fancy dress for at least of one of the evenings. Will the clubs be put off by this?

Finally, the lads would like to visit a gentlemen's club. Are there any in Douglas that you would recommend?

Thanks for your help.

Nightlife in the island changes for TT. Most clubs are more relaxed on dress codes and fancy dress will probably be fine. There is only one Casino at the Palace Hotel. Under the Palace Hotel is Tahiko nightclub.

Most people tend to congregate in the Beer Tents on the promenade during TT week and then head to clubs.

There are no particular big clubs, Courthouse/Outback/Tahiko are probably the only ones!

Depending on your age though depends where you would like! Thirsty Pigeon is a popular pub/bar. Also if its a nice evening head down to the quayside there are several pubs along there.

Hi Emsy,

Thanks for your reply. Thirsty pigeon sounds like a good place! Now I've got a few place names for us to look for when we get there.

Cheers.

Hi TopGear,

I'm just wondering how you got on in IOM with fancy dress? My husband is off to TT on 5th-7th June for a stag do. He's best man and trying to arrange a fancy dress night out but also worried they'll get refused into pubs.

Any tips/advice will be greatly received!

Thanks

Hi Mrs Duck,

We had an absolutely brilliant time on our stag do. The nightlife wasn't fantastic, but it was OK - typical small town - but if there's a load of your mates then you can make most places pretty enjoyable.

Fancy dress wasn't a problem in most of the bars.

I can't remember names of all the places, but on the promenade there are a couple of basement bars which were pretty cool - live bands and sofas etc. There is loads of street entertainment in Douglas - stunt riders and cars pulling doughnuts... all free. We were lucky that weather was great so we ended up on the street riding bucking bronco and drinking beer in the sunshine.

Not sure what age your group is, but there was a club called "Outback" or something like that (vaguely Australian themed) that was OK but had a pretty young crowd. Can't recall exact location but everybody knew where it was when we were there.

And then there's the "Quids Inn" - the name gives you a clue - pay a quid to get in through a turnstile and you get loads of booze for next to nothing. Carnage in here for a stag do. Almost ended our Stag's night with a topshelf pint for about £4! This is on the promenade too - everyone knows Quids Inn and it was rammed full when we were there.

The island shuts down during the day while racing is on so make sure you plan your spot and be prepared to make camp for the day as the roads are shut. We went to Creg-ny-bar (apologies if spelt wrong) and it was great in the sunshine (apart from extortionate pub prices charging tickets just to use the pub!) But if the weather wasn't good this place would have been awful as it is basically just in the moors with nothing else for miles apart from the pi$$-take pub! I'd recommend camping chairs, coolbox and loads of beers. Don't pay for the grandstands - the TT started as "the worlds biggest FREE sporting event" so you can stand anywhere outside any pub and get cracking views. Creg-ny-bar gives you 2 long straights and a corner so you can see some good action.

FYI - there is a good paintballing place just outside douglas called "Brewery Paintball". It's outdoor and the fella that runs it is sound. He opening the place up just for us and we had the run of it. Even got a crate of lager off him at the end.

Hope that helps, and I hope the lads have a good do.
