Isle of Man in January-February

Hello and greetings from Denmark!

I am considering travelling in winter to Cornwall for "stormwatching".

I like to take pictures so as far as I was told in the Cornwall Forum there are several places there suitable for photographical activities. I visited Cornwall a few ago and I really want to go back.

But...

Isle of Man is also a place in my whish list. The difficulties to travel to Cornwall from London Stansted are similar so I thought that maybe I could give it a try. There is a fly company that has quiet cheap tickets (although not from Stansted Airport).

Are there "wild storms" to be watched in Isle of Man? Is there a season for that?

Thank you very much!

Best regards :-)

Hi Oscar

These links might help you decide

Mind you, on an autumn sea cat crossing I went on that had to be re-routed, and as most people were sick on board, as waves seemed to be overhead and as crockery flew everywhere, I could have sworn I was nowhere near the Gulf Stream! Still, this was out at sea, and I'm not sure what constitues a wild storm.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge of year-round IOM weather will be along shortly.

We get some pretty awful storms here, but no way to predict them this far ahead. I know I wound't go out in one to observe, esp that time of year. It is very dark then so photos would be hard to take I think.

Thank you very much for your answers!

Yes, it probably is a great challenge to take pictures when the weather is that stormy. To tell the truth I never tried it before but thanks again for your advice.

In winter or in the summer I am going to visit IOM, the sooner the better :-)

Best regards

Oscar

Buddysmum!

Thank you very much for your suggestions. One thing is sure: I will travel to Cornwall OR IOM. I will not have so much time to do both.

Your description sound very tempting :-)

Thanks again for your help!

Best regards :-)

Hi Oscar

You will love the Isle of Man - and you should get some good rough weather shots. Here are some pictures I found on the web.

The downside of coming in winter is that the railways won't be running.....
