olympic sailing

We'd like to see some of the olympic sailing - we dont have tickets- are there any viewing points along the coast where we might be able to see a race or two - we'd have binoculars!

There will be a big screen on Weymouth beach showing highlights.

apart from the large screen on the beach, which is showing it live, you may be able to see something from the cliffs at Osmington, and Ringstead , but I'm not sure if they are all accessible to the public. LOCOG seem intent in limiting viewing points presumably because for the first time ever, they are charging for olympic viewing seats!

Dont know where you are planning on staying, but there seem to be plenty of B&B vacancies in Weymouth but suggest you check when you book, as to car parking arrangements. public car parking is limited and some car parks inc park & ride are for sailing ticket holders only.

Do come down to the beach at Weymouth too there is a lot going on there and by the Pavilion, in addition to the big screen. as part of the cultural olympiad. www.maritimemix2012.co.uk and www.weymouthbaysidefestival.co.uk will give more info.and the usual attractions will be open too (except Nothe Fort which is for olympic ticket holders only)

Also suggest you look at www.dorsetforyou.com/london2012/transport for travel and traffic arrangements in place at the time. Do check with your accommodation to

find out what arrangements they have for parking etc during this period, as it may be different from usual. Hope this helps. As I mentioned before there is still plenty of accommodation available for the Olympic weeks (and also weeks between then and paralympics), so why not stay longer if you can

Weymouth Carnival is on the week after the games ends.

Another suggestion for you:

You might also be able to view from some parts of Portland:it will be be ok to get on and off and spend time there, but not sure about parking etc near the possible view points It may be worth a try though. The immediate area around the sailing academy and Osprey Quay will not be accessible, but once past Castle Cove/Easton you should be ok I would think. Portland is great for walking round so you could choose to do that, then you could stop at suitable viewing places to look at the sailing from the cliff tops.

it is the council will be getting a nice fat profit not the local businesses i presume.

Unlikely at best. Its fairer.

It means the people who want to see the Games bear the cost. Rather than them taking it out of general taxation from people who dont want to see the Games

No one will be allowed at the Nothe Fort or Nothe Gardens unless they already have Olympic tickets. Hope this clears up any confusion.
