day trips from Golden

Hi all- I've been to ireland many times, but this is the first time without my husband/driver. My best friend from HS has always wanted to go, and this is a special year birthday, so we are staying in Golden with my cousins from June 25- July 2.

My friend wants to do the Blarney Stone ( which i could skip-but it's the only thing she is definite about), and my cousin will drive us there.

Neither of us will drive- but is there a bus/train or guided tour we could do from Cashel, cahir or Thurles to either West Cork, Bantry area or Killarney, or even better, Dingle? I don't want to mention it to my cousin, as she will offer to drive us and I don't want to impose any more than we already are ( although every friend I've brought to Ireland has always siad their most favorite thing was the time with my many cousins!

The last day/night we will want a B&B near airport and recommendations for the night- and it's been a long time for me since I did the tourist thing- but is Bunratty Folk Park expensive and can you do the park, and Durty Nelly's?

Thanks in advance

Aah, Golden - such a lovely place! I'm particularly fond of co. Tipperary; it was the first area I ever visited and it's where my love affair with Ireland began :-)

I think you might struggle to find any tours departing from Cashel or surrounding areas. Here's a link to the "getting around Tipperary" page on the Tipperary tourist site which may help. Lots of links to other web-sites:

There's a coach company in Cashel called Devitts who have a variety of coaches for hire, but from their web-site I get the feeling that they arrange bespoke tours for large/larger groups than 2! Might be worth contacting them to see if they can help - or point you in the direction of another company:

Here are links to Irish Rail and Bus Eireann:

I assume you're leaving from Shannon airport as you've mentioned Bunratty Castle?

We stayed at Bunratty Courtyard this year and were very pleased with the accommodation. Lots more places reviewed here on TA.

And here's the link to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park; it details all prices:

If you went to the 5.30pm medieval banquet (a bit early, maybe!), then yes, you'd have plenty time to visit Durty Nelly's afterwards - or any of the other establishments in Bunratty Village.

SarinaGirl, Were you beds at the Courtyard comfortable? Mine were not hence I cannot recommend it.

Thank you so much-

I'll post back after our trip.

I too love Tipp, my family has been there "forever", or as forever as anyone knows- and I still get chills when I see the Rock lit up at night.
