4 days Bergen travel Plan - Advice needed

Hi,

We (A young couple) are planning to arrive in Bergen on 8th May 2013 and return on 12th May . Our tentative plan is to spend a day in Bergen , spend a day in Balestrand , visit flam and then back to Bergen. What would be the best possible route , things to do and means of transport? Any suggestion would be helpful as we have are still planning this trip.

You can do the Norway in a Nutshell Trip. it will take you to Flam and Voss, and the fjords.

Your visit is out of season so I would skip Balestrand. www.fjordtours.com offers the recommended Norway in a Nutshell tours.

As far as I can understand, you need to spend the first, second and last night in Bergen. With only one night in the fjord area, your plan is not doable. The NiN with one overnight in Flåm would be a possible option.

Sorry but I don't agree with the other posters. The express boat along the Sognefjord operates from 1st May so you could easily travel from Bergen by train to Flam, then catch the express boat to Balestrand and spend two or three nights there. You can return to Bergen directly on the express boat which will connect with an evening flight home. It is early season but hotels in Balestrand are open and you will have the place pretty much to yourselves. The boat trip from there to Fjaerland also starts at the beginning of May and highly recommended as a day trip.

Norsc, have you got it confirmed the express boat will operate from May 1st this year? The timetables are not available yet as far as I can see. Norled is still displaying the schedule for summer 2012 and not 2013.

Thanks every one... Here is wat we did :).

Landed in Bergen and booked Norway in a nutshell tour... Stayed overnight in Flam and hiked a bit the next day... no other stays... spent some additional time in Voss and walked a bit there. Spent next 2 days in Bergen ... saw some nice touristy places, hiked again and explored almost entire city center by foot... overall awesome experience :).

Thanks Again!!!

Yes, if you have enough time.

Norway in a Nutshell is definitely a good trip, but do note that the NiN is very popular and rather busy.
