Advise on Norway in Nutshell and Sognefjord in a nutshell

Hi,

We are planning to take a train from Oslo to Myrdal and then taking the flam train. Is it better to do Norway in Nutshell to reach Bergen or take the express boat to Sognefjord? Can you do both? will there be any overlaps?

We heard the Stalheim hotel is a good place to stay. Can we do the Norway in Nutshell till Stalheim and then take the express boat to Bergen the next day. should we go all the way upto Flam for getting the express boat or can we get it enroute?

Is it worth doing both the trips? We are planning to stay in Bergen for 2-3 days and hire a car and explore the Hardangerfjord.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Sunitha

Please see a number of previous posts about this topic.

NiN and SiN is simply a chain of public transport. They overlap from Oslo to Flåm, then splits in two alternatives. The express boat (SiN) runs all long the great Sognefjord, then between islands down to Bergen, while NiN continues overland from Gudvangen to Bergen.

You have to return to Flåm to take the boat:
