Oslo-Bergen Train

For those of you who have travelled this route, I have two questions:

On the online booking you can choose your seats, but I can't tell which way they're facing, is it the line on the left or right in the seat that is a forward facing seat?

Also, is it better to sit on the left hand side or right hand side of the carriage?

Thanks

Left side is probably best going from Oslo to Bergen as you will get a better view of the mountain section between Geilo and Voss. It really doesn't make much difference whether you are facing forward or back though.

Hi, we want to buy ticket online also.

After we choose the time and price, it comes to "payment information". For the name, does it need to be same as on passport ? for "ticket collection point", which one shall we choose ? Is it an e-ticket ?

Many thanks.

No, they do not have e-tickets on nsb. You get an e-mail confirmation that you bring with you. Ticket collection can be station ticket office or on the train. There is an extra fee for collecting on train if your departure point has ticket office. Give your real name - it may be easier for the conductor/ticket office to find you in the system.

Klima, are you sure there is a an extra fee for collecting on the train if the departure point has an ticket office? I've tried finding information about this on NSB's website and there is no mention of it. I always select to collect the ticket on the train (less stress :-)) and have never been charged an extra fee for it.

There has been goings on in the papers lately on the very subject - people were complaining that they had to pay this fee when there was no other possibility than collection on the train. So NSB decided to drop the on train fee from unmanned stations after pressure from the consumer organisations. You can now also buy train tickets using your smartphone app.

I seem to remember that the fee pops up during the booking.

The white square area on the seat is the headrest.

For your information, the address of the website "Trains in Norway - Seat maps" has been changed.
