Help us choose the right hotel

We are thinking of a flight which arrives in Oslo at 1640. We plan to stay a few days before leaving on a cruise. With the uncertainty of Brexit we want to prepay for as much as possible and are considering Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz.

We would travel from the airport by local train and then walk to the hotel. We will have a roller case each and are quite capable of pulling them at least a kilometre as long as its on a fairly smooth surface. We would also walk to the port with our cases.

Is this feasible?

Where would we get off the train?

Is there a tram we should be transferring to?

Any other tips would be appreciated please.

You can go by triain to Nationaltheateret station then a few min walk. If you get off at Oslo Central (Oslo S), then walk about 1 km or transfer by tram

Be aware that there is a Thon Rosenkrantz in Bergen too!

When is this visit?

Port? Where are you travelling on to.

Hotels around the central station are more convenient for public transport.

I haven't seen the pier assignments for 2019 yet, but in the past most cruises that embarked or disembarked in Oslo have used Filipstadkaia, instead of the usual central piers (e.g. Akershuskaia) Filipstadkaia isn't particularly easy to walk to from anywhere, since the closest hotels are on the other side of the E18, which would require hauling luggage up over the pedestrian bridge. You might be able to take the bus 33 from St Olavs plass near the Thon Rosenkrantz, but it only runs from 7:00-9:30 and 15:30-18:00 on weekdays.

Thank you all.

If we stay at Rosenkrantz is the stop for Nationaltheateret after Central station or before? Do all the trains stop here?

I didn't realise that an embarking cruise ship would not dock in the centre of the city, can you tell me please about how much a taxi would cost?

Nationaltheateret after Central station (when you arrive at Oslo airport), every second airport expres train has central station as end.

https://www.taxikalkulator.no depending on day of week and time, but around NOK 150.

Local train also stops at Nationaltheatret and is much cheaper and also gives you free transfer to local train. You are probably best off with a 7 day public transport pass for zone 1 - buy at airport and then a supplement of NOK 66 for the local train from airport.

You’ll find which quay your ship docks here when data for 2019 becomes available - https://oslohavn.no/en/
