Hotel for Honeymoon. Sacher, Bristol, or any other suggest

Hi everybody,

We will spend a few nights in Vienna in March as part of our honeymoon. I would very much like to stay in the center of the city and have been looking at places to stay in. We would prefere an old fashion looking hotel rather than a modern one. I have been thinking about Bristol and Sacher.

From what I have read in tripadvisor, I don't have a great feeling about Bristol. So Sacher seems to be my best choice. I have read a few comments about the staff being a bit snobby but I am thinking that can't be too bad and we may not need interacting with the staff that much any way. I am thinking about having a Delux room at Sacher. In both Sacher and Bristol, the price is around 400$ a night.

Is sacher a good choice? How about Bristol? Any other hotels in the same area? in the same price range?

Thanks much.

I've not stayed in either of these two so am hardly in a position to advise ... but some other possibilities you might consider of the huge-grand variety are the Grand Hotel and the Imperial Hotel, both located on the Ring not far from the Bristol.

Having said that, the Ring location has never appealed to me because the traffic is heavy and you end up trudging past a sea of roaring cars to get to anything interesting (such as non-hotel restaurants, shops etc). Of the Ring hotels, the Bristol is the best located - and the Sacher location is better because off the Ring and in the centre itself.

There are a couple of smaller hotels located right in the centre of the oldest part of town near St Stephen's which might also be worth considering - Konig von Ungarn and Kaiserin Elisabeth. They're not as flashy as the big-name hotels but look pretty luxurious, and for a honeymoon might be quieter and more intimate than the chain hotels thronged with business travellers and rich globetrotters.

The Sacher and Bristol are only 150 meters apart - so location is not an issue.

The Sacher recently received a complete renovation and in my opinion is nicer than the Bristol. The Sacher would be my choice.

. I have found the Sacher staff to be efficient and courteous. Unfortunately , they must contend with all manner of visitors- many who are actually not guests but rather individuals that visit for a cake or a drink and think they somehow " Own" the Hotel and the staff.

An alternative hotel is the Palais Coburg - still in the city center and near most things but smaller and more quiet. While not inexpensive- a superlative hotel.

why not try the Imperial.

The offer also special romantic packages.

I was never a fan of Sacher but this only a personal thing.

Well, the Imperial seemed to be much more expensive the last time I checked. May be I should give it another look. Thanks for the suggestion.

First of all, congratulations on your pending marriage! My husband and I just returned from spending Christmas in Vienna and had an incredibly wonderful, romantic time. You will love it!

We stayed at the Imperial and could not have been happier. The staff was lovely and did everything possible to make our stay memorable. They upgraded us to an Elizabeth Suite, rather than the junior suite we had booked (even though the hotel was close to fully booked). On Christmas Eve they put on a classical concert with hors d'oeuvres and champagne....each guest received a gift of a bottle of wine---a true touch of class.

We had considered the Bristol and Sacher as well prior to booking the Imperial. We liked the decor of the Imperial better than the Bristol (by looking at their websites...just our preference). The Sacher was fully booked (we made reservations quite late). The location of all 3 is VERY convenient to all. That being said, the Sacher is probably the very best of all locations, as poster Roley said, it is located in the true center of the main shopping street (Kartnerstrasse), but the Bristol is just a half block away. Both have gorgeous views of the State Opera House. The Imperial is located on the main Ring, so, yes, some traffic, but overall, a very quiet city compared to New York! We never felt like there was any traffic to speak of, coming from NY. It takes 5 minutes to walk to the opera house and main shopping from the Imperial. The Musikverein (one of Vienna's most highly regarded venues and where the famous New Year's Eve Ball takes place) is directly behind the Imperial, as is the Karlkirsch, a gorgeous baroque church. The Konzerthaus is 5 minutes from the Imperial, as is a wonderful fish restaurant Kevansaray....so you really can't go wrong with any of them. The Bristol is home to the famous restaurant Korso and their Cafe Sirk is also very popular. You should receive excellent service at any you choose. Be sure to eat at Morwald in the Ambassador Hotel (in the dining room, not the cafe)...a very special meal .Have a wonderful time.! But it will be your honeymoon, so of course you will!
