Rathausplatz Christmas Tree

Just watching them placing the Christmas Tree in Rathausplatz on the web cam ..... is it my imagination ... or does it look a bit overly scrawny this year?! It looks like a parrot who's pulled all it's feather out ...:)

It will look soon nice and pretty once it will be decorated with lights - it weighs 6 tons and not every branch survives the transport.

Not sure about Austria, but in most countries the tree would be taken down on or before Twelfth Night (5 January) or the Feast of Epiphany which was on Monday 6 January. This celebrates the three Magi visiting the infant Jesus and is widely considered to be the last day of Christmas.

Rathausplatz must be quickly changed into the winter ice skating mecca that opens January 24th for its annual winter fun. This process involves much work and the area of thetree is a good part of rink areas and support system.

January 6 is a Holiday here and as noted the end of the traditional Christmas/ New Year Holidays.

Many workers have vacation up to the 6th and schools closed until after that date.
