Vienna Transport

two of us are spending 5 full days +arrival day+departure day in vienna...wed-tues

i guess an 8 day card plus some single tickets would be the best transport option for us.

If you stay (moreless) 7 days in Vienna. then I would buy - for each person of course - a weekly pass (15€, valid till Monday morning) + 48 hours pass (11.70€). If you leave Vienna Tuesday morning, then a 24h pass might be good as well. In the end it depends on whether you need public transport every day. If you can sort out such days, then the solution with the (non-consecutive) 8-days pass (33.80€) might be sufficient.

The weekly ticket (valid until Monday, 9am) is most probably a good idea, especially if you can save sights or shopping in walking distance of your hotel for Monday and Tuesday. Otherwise, take single tickets or an additional 24 or 48 hours ticket for Monday and Tuesday (depending on your departure time).

The 8 day is more expensive but can be used on non-consecutive days and by more than one person simultaeously by validating the appropriate number of stripes (obviously, all persons need to travel together then).

It's more than about time the Vienna Transport Authority changed the weekly ticket to being exactly that - valid for a full week from whatever daty you start to use it. The present one is not tourist-friendly!

I completely agree, Norman. I really wonder who is using the weekly tickets as they are now, because even for locals they don't seem to be of much use as anyone using public transport on a regular basis will rather go for a monthly or for an annual ticket.

thanks for your thoughts.

we are staying in the museum quarter.

will organize our sightseeing around the 8 day ticket and then just buy singles for our trip to the westbahnhof on the tuesday.

and yes u would think a weekly ticket should be for any 7 consectutive days.

Staying near the museum quarter you should easily be able to arrange your calendar so you have several days where public transport is unnecessary.
