food questions

Any idea where in the stephn platz area i can find a place to have a schnitzel that is not pork?

Also, the cold weather make me allways think of a large bowl of soup.

Any idea for that as well in this area?

Well the traditional Wiener Schnitzel is made with veal. The most famous schnitzel restaurant in Vienna, Figlmüller sells that at its Bäckerstrasse branch, but many other restaurants do too. If veal is too expensive for you many places sell chicken or turkey schnitzels.

Not sure I understand what you mean about "unfriendly posts"?

Would veal be what you are looking for? Or would you prefer poultry?

We posted so many threads about restaurants in the first district and I always advice to use the search first.

You didnt mention your price limit as you can get all kind of food and price range also in the Inner City.

Figlmüller is definitely not the only restaurant in the Inner city.

And you get soup everywhere and it is mostly made out of beef bones or chicken. Just be aware if SPECK is mentioned on the menu card that this is made out of pork.

You can try

Gasthaus zur Oper (which belongs to the Plachutta chain)

Walfischgasse 5-7

1010 Wien

The HOPERL in Naglergasse 13, 1010 Wien has soups and veal Schnitzerl on their menu

Or 3 Hacken

SIngerstrasse 28

1010 Wien

If you want chicken or turkey schnitzel and aren't looking for fancy dining you could try the Wienerwald chain. There's one just off Stephansplatz on Goldschmiedgasse.

For soup, why not try gulasch? A nice place for this is the Gulaschmuseum; www.gulasch.at

I have also enjoyed the gulash from Café Prückel located at Stubenring 24. Very nice selection of desserts too. Non-smoking room is in the back.

But unfortunately it says at the top of their menu that all their dishes are pork!
