Taxi Fares in Vienna

I'd appreciate guidance on What taxi fare to expect from Stephansdom to the Sudbahnhof rail station, and also from Stephansdom to the Franz Josefs Banhof station. Is there a surcharge for a second passenger? For large suitcases? Thanks in advance for any help.

Vienna taxis charge a metered rate and are generally clean , safe and with an honest meter. Trip should take no more than 15 minutes.

Expect fares to be 8-12 euros for either station.( normal add 10% or round off )Known as trinkgeld or money for a drink)

No charge for 2nd person.

Both stations are about the same distance from Stephensdom, but the Sudbahnhof may take less time to reach depending on traffic.

Your hotel can call a taxi or several taxi kiosks are near Stephensdom.

I believe they can charge a nominal fee for luggage, but rarely take taxi due to the excelent publc transport system and should not comment on this. Perhaps another poster who takes big luggage can answer.

Once more, Vertical, thanks for your practical advice. If you're wondering why we'd obsess over such details, it occurred to us that a car and driver service might not be too much more expensive than train tickets for two, plus taxis at each end, for our onward travels to Eisenstadt and later (as indicated in a previous thread) to Krems. As it turns out, the difference isn't trivial, but on the other hand isn't prohibitive either, and conceivably might be worth it if only for stress reduction.

Message Hoftraveler:

When do you visit Austria?

We live summers near Krems- would be happy to assist with transport if schedules permit. We will away for most of October.

If interested- send e-mail my address- amhof2002@yahoo.com

Did you know that a large Roman town ruin( a Roman Army Garrison town and capital of this area) can be seen along the Danube south of Vienna and not too far from Eisenstadt ?
