Mercure is on Wallgasse, not Wallstrasse. I would pick the Star Inn. Much better neighborhood with significant sights, like the Belvedere, nearby. Also, that hotel is brand new.

I would go for the one in Marihilf (Mercure Raphael Hotel) because it is in a more authentic neighborhood. It's opposite of Raimund Theater which is mostly known for the musicals performed there. You would also be fairly close to 'Mariahilferstraße', Vienna's most popular shopping street.

The Star Inn Premium is very new hotel in a partly new neighborhood south of Hauptbahnhof Station (which is also new). It's perfect if you want to stay close to the main train station of Vienna, but the area lacks authenticity.

Two opposite recommendations. Here’s a third one - look again as there are better locations than either!

Both are okay. As Michael wrote, the Star Inn is a new hotel in a new neighborhood, the Mercure is more authentic - which in this case means the somewhat down-at-heels end of an upscale district. There are certainly better locations, but it will cost you a premium to get comparable accomodation there.

You can sometimes find bargains in really nice parts of the city. Budget and dates would help. But generally if your budget is very tight you have to accept less than ideal locations.

I am trying to keep my budget as close to 100 Euros a night as possible. We will be in Vienna for 5 days starting June 26. This is why I narrowed down to these 2 but I am open to suggestions,

Four to look at in your price range for your dates and with better locations:

Erzherzog Rainer

NH Wien Belvedere

NH Wien City

Motel One Wien-Staatsoper

Interesting choice!

I’ll go for the Mercure Raphael for its location – actually, for its left side neighborhood – just a few steps to Europaplatz/Mariahilferstr. U3 – Never turn right leaving your hotel, even if the metrostop “Gumpendorferstr.” is nearer, you don’t want to be there – riff raff alarm!!!

The Star Hotels are very functional and clean, Hotel Star Premium is located in a new developed are with no atmosphere, but probably the better hotel.
