Hop On Hop Off

We are thinking of doing the HOHO option as we arrive on Thursday and depart on a river cruise on Sunday afternoon. There is 3 different companies. Any idea which is the better one. Regards

None of them. Stick to the excellent, much more frequent, more comprehensive and cheaper public transport network.

And since none of them are allowed into the centre inside the Ring which is where you will want to explore, use the trams and mini-bus service and walk. Vienna is a compact city and you will see much more on foot.

If you want to include Schönbrunn, the U-bahn line U4 is an easy option.

Agree with Norman and Halfpass - just get a public transportation pass and use the buses, trams and ubahns.

Other than Dublin I wonder if there is anywhere in Europe where these are recommended.

I take it you are referring to the HoHo?

Jordansbulls, Prague, Salzburg, Paris, Munich, Amsterdam, all spring immediately to mind.

The HoHo works for those who want a superficial "flyby" view. In compact well organised European cities, whose centres are often wholly or partially pedestrianised you just miss out on so much if you can't explore on foot.

You could add London to that list where everything seems to be on a road.

We tend to use HOHO buses when on a city break, and while I appreciate you can see so much more yourself, it helps us get acquainted with the city, and we get a general feel of where we want to visit. We then usually do this under our own steam.

Plan on using this in Vienna and hopefully will have the usual good things to say afterwards

They usually work out well for us on short breaks

Lynne

@ Lynne R

Whilst you are entitled to do whatever you want when you visit don’t dismiss our years of advice just because HoHos worked for you in other cities. Each city is different!

I know for Munich and Amsterdam I wouldn't use it for, and highly doubt for Paris it would make sense. Maybe Salzburg does though since it is much smaller.
