Day Trip to Innsbruck

I will be in Bolzano for few days in early June and I was thinking of a day trip to Innsbruck. Would the tobogan at Seegrube be operating in June ?

How easy it is to get to the Valley station from Innsbruck train station?

Is there any other Austrian Village with a cable car and or a lake along the route from Bolzano to Innsbruck which I can visit.

Thanks

"Would the tobogan at Seegrube be operating in June ?" - Do you mean a Summer Toboggan run "Sommerrodelbahn" or are you expecting snow??

Lake - well there's the Brennersee but not very exciting and not a nice location (next to the Autobahn)

Steinach am Brenner has a cable car.

Problem is that coming from Bolzano if going to Innsbruck you could jump on 1 of the 6 Deutsche Bahn/OEBB direct intercity services that run between Munich and Verona/Venice. Takes ~ 2hrs

www.oebb.at for Austrian rail

Other connections to/from Innsbruck will take at least over 2hrs - 2h30 with one change. Some of the connections for the ~ 2hrs are really tight. In addition it will be difficult to get a through ticket (if impossible) as one service is an Italian Regional service and one an Austrian Regional service (Changing at Brenner/Brennero)

Other thing to note is that early June some resorts bergbahns/cable cars may still be on maintenance (good time for inter-season maintenance)

Not sure for instance about Steinach. I'm pretty sure I have seen them running when driving to Lake Garda end of May.

Going the other way you could go to Lake Garda.

You can get a train from Bolzano to Rovereto in 1hr - €5.50 single

www.trenitalia.com for italian trains

There is a local bus from Rovereto to Riva del Garda.

Basically I am looking for a location were there is a relative large lake with snow capped mountains in the background. Something like Zell am see or Lake Achensee in Austria but reachable from bolzano by public transport. I know there are a few lakes near Bolzano but they seem very small.

Well lake Garda is pretty large.

In June lower altitude mountains will likely be totally devoid of snow.

Place that Springs to mind is the Schnalstal. Up from Naturns west of Merano up to Lago di Vernago. Area surrounded by Mountains well over 3000m (so will be snow capped)

http://www.schnalstal.com/en/winter/

You can get to Naturns by train from Bolzano

www.trenitalia.com for trains

Then take the 261 Bus

www.sii.bz.it/it/siipdftimetables… and scroll down to 261

You can use http://www.sii.bz.it/en and use "FROM" Bolzano "TO" Vernago and it will show you the rail and bus connections/solutions

Basically it takes 2h10 regardless whether you get the train to Meran then the bus to Vernago or the train to Meran then another train to Naturns then the bus.

Difference is that the 261 doesn't run that often to/from Meran

If you want to touch snow you can take the 261 to Maso Corto and get the cable car up to 3200m
