How busy is it in August?

I was wondering if a 5 days trip to Tirol, for 2 adults, would be a good idea in August, since I understand it's a "families friendly" area.

Are there places we can find less busy or crowded?

Great place in August. Some towns get busy, Eg Zell am See, St Gilgen, but once you get out walking it's very quiet.

Of course it is high season, but it won't be like at the sea where the beach is "fully occupied". If you stick to smaller towns, it will also be less busy.

The great thing about Tyrol, is that there is so many villages to visit and mountain resorts to explore, that the tourists are spread out nice and evenly. Of course you will notice other tourists in Innsbruck, the capital, but it is nothing like Salzburg or Vienna. The Nordkettenbahnen (cable car up the mountain above Innsbruck) might be one of the few places where you will have to wait for a next car (but hey, you can enjoy the views while you wait!) Here are some tips so you know what to expect www.traveltyrol.com/nordkette-cable-cars/ And on hot days the bathing areas will get full.

Other nice destinations in Tyrol is the Stubai Valley (with the Alpine Coaster in Mieders) and Lake Achen.

Absolutely agree with others. Tyrol is big, it will not be crowded, but of course, some places are more popular then others. Some more quiet places in the Tyrol area are Osttirol (Matrei, Kals, Virgental, Sillian etc)

, Wipptal, Mieminger Plateau, Tannheimertal but of course many other lovely places mentioned here, which you really should visit.

Austria is used to coping with huge numbers because it is a popular ski destination. There is plenty of accommodation and enough space for the summer tourists without it becommimg crowded. I'd expect places like Salzburg to be busy though.
