Why do you want to book the ticket online? Get there, buy a Bayern-Ticket just before departure, get into the train and don't worry!

Check out the German raiways website www.db.de and look for information on Lander Tickets. The advantage of these tickets is that allow several people to travel together for just the one price providing you do not use the ICE, EC or IC trains.

As altimiro writes don't worry German,Austrian and Swiss railways are very user friendley.

Yes, with the Bayern-Ticket up to 5 people can travel to/from the Munich Hauptbahnhof and the Salzburg Hbf. Cost is 24 € from ticket machine, 26 € from ticket agent. Read about the ticket at: bahn.de/-S:PtVORd:d9E-jtNNYyadcNNNNPIM/p/vie…

It is valid only on IRE, RE and RB trains after 09:00 on weekdays and all day on weekends. These are the local “commuter” trains, which will make several more stops, but the travel time will be only 20 minutes longer.

Train schedules can be found at: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

Under time enter 09:00 and under Means of transport change to “only local transport”

For a sightseeing and bus map of Salzburg, go to http://www.salzburg.info/sights.jpg

As you walk out of the Salzburg Hbf is the SüdTirol Platz. Taxi ranks are straight ahead, bus stop is to the left. As you can see from the map, you would take bus #5, #6, #51 or #55 from the Hauptbahnhof towards old town across the bridge to the left bank of the Salzach river and get off on Rudolfskai street. To return to the train station by bus, you would walk across the river and get on bus #5, #6, #51 or #55 at a stop along Giselakai street.

For a hotel, you might consider the Hotel Wolf. The hotel website is at http://www.hotelwolf.at/english/welcome.html
