summer glacier skiing

I am interested to hear anyone's experience of summer glacier skiing in Austria. In particular, any recommendations for location, or any opinions on the quality and extent of skiing available in July/August would be great. I am not finding too much info about it elsewhere.

Thanks in advance.

Where did you look ?

easy to find good info at

www.austria.info

Just insert glacier skiing in the search box.

Numerous choices available .

In my opinon

the best are Hintertux

www.hintertux.at

they are proud to say they are open 365 days peyear.

Good hotels at the base of the lifts - best skiing as always in the morning or toward the end of the day - high altitude over 3200 meters- sometimes cold enough for summer snows.

Good amount of skiable terrain. Tux, my personal favorite.

Kaprun - Kitzsteinhorn

www.kitzsteinhorn.at

mostly easy skiing - gets wet and thick sometimes-

Sölden / Obergurgl

lesser snow in July

www.soelden.at

Stubai Glacier - some nice towns nearby not far from Innsbruck.

A little known but isolated place -

Kaunnertal near to the resort Serfaus

Probably less convenient access.

It might be something special, but in the end it is not comparable to skiing in winter season. Honestly, I would refrain from doing that.

You and many others have that same feeling. The glaciers are very busy in summer. Best snow - sure skiing is Hintertux in my opinion.. They ski 365 days a year.

The lift company a professional group that has purchased other bergbahnen in Austria too. So they must be doing something right.

I always enjoy Hintertux in summer. Not just the skiing but the views and feeling - great to ski in a t shirt.

Many thousands come to this fine place- many that you would have found in Ischgl. Nice ride up to Hintertux from Mayrhofen passing Finkenberg and Lanersbach.

Perhaps they will have a ski bus running this year from Mayrhofen too.

The restaurant Tuxer Fernerhaus reminds me a little of what you find such as atmosphere.Ischgl.

Good food , many tables and benches, sun chairs to enjoy .

The surrounding mountains provide a fantastic view.

from the top by the Kaserer great views toward the Brenner that is not actually far away.

Many will ski from early in the morning- rest, eat , drink and take the sun at midday and then later in the afternoon back to some skiing.

Usually about 20 kilometers of piste available.

Look to their web site - you can see the area via the webcams.

Fnjoy it - a great day.
