Just to report back - we used Elephant, who were friendly and efficient. It was an easy pick up and drop off.

We were charged 30 Euro for fuel, but it was about half a tank. We didn't pay cash for the fuel, it was all put on our card.

We drove the car up to Latchi where we were staying and I managed my first Cyprus driving experience ok.

While there we drove up into the hills to the big monastery which was nice. on the way back, the car broke down. In fact the clutch pedal snapped off. We were parked at the time so no harm done. I'm not an expert mountain driver so didn't want to risk any clutchless driving, so I managed to find a signal for my phone and managed to call Elephant. It took a very chirpy mechanic 3 hours to find us, but he did! he brought us a new car and did hat was needed to drive the other back to Paphos.

ALWAYS take a mobile, just in case. Although it was a pain, elephant sorted it out as efficiently as could be expected and we will use them again.

We have used Elephant rent a car at Paphos five times now without any problems at all. We have just returned from Paphos but when we arrived, our flight was very late, but their representative was there waiting after midnight to take us to our cars and explain everything, even though we now know it by heart. There is always petrol in the tank and they ask that you bring it back empty, but we have never been charged for fuel in all the times we have used them. They are courteous, efficient and we see no reason to use anyone else as their prices are very reasonable. The cars are clean and run well and they have never failed to supply an automatic car as requested.

They don't require a deposit up front to book the car, but yes I think when you arrive and do the paperwork they take a copy of your credit card to cover any excess. You can always buy an annual policy for excess waiver cover here before you go, it costs about £40, we do it as we hire about 4 cars a year.

Currently hiring a car from Elephant. They gave us a quote on line and that's what we paid in cash, the guy delivering the car to our hotel emphasised it was full insurance. Charged €25 euros for just under half tank petrol. Car, although not brand new is fine. Yes we did have to leave a card swipe but that seems fair enough.

We have used Elephant every time we have gone to Paphos and we have never had a problem, even when we flew in after midnight last time.

Is easyrentacar the one on Melinas Merkouri? We want to visit to book a car and they seem close to Cypria Bay hotel where we are staying, I can't find the street on the map where Elephant are! Are they close by too?
