Help Needing advice on Paphos in dec/jan

I will be going to cyprus in Dec arriving 26th Dec for two weeks,

Looking forward to seeing cyprus but I,m wary now with reading some reviews on here about how dear paphos is becoming. Im not sure how much money to allow for spending and with it changing to the euro 1st jan just confuses things even more.

Hubby and I dont drive but we want to find some authentic places to eat in paphos as we tend to avoid tourist places,

anyone got any advice in what is best way to get around in paphos in dec/jan and were is the best places to go.

any advice or tips on were to go on new years eve would be most welcome as well

Hi ScotlandHazel,

To be honest if you don't drive then you will have to be in the centre of either Paphos or Coral bay so that you can get about, Bus service is every 15 mins from paphos to Coral bay.

Although some places do close over the xmas period there are still loads of places open.

I am not going into the debate on how expensive Paphos is or not as I feel it has been totally exhausted by now, but I will say that Cyprus is no different then any other tourist resort, I am a well travelled person & if you go to a tourist area then you have to accept that they will add a little extra on, but the way some people on this forum has been trying to make out Paphos seems to be leading in the title race for the most ripoff destination. In the torist area's you will expect to pay CYP10 for a meze outside the tourist trap you will pay CYP8.50 pint of Keo between CYP1 - CYP1.50, anyay prices will drop in dec / jan anyway.

there is about 21 hotels in Paphos & they all have entertainment on but last year not one of them had a piper to bring in the New Year

hope this helps

We are staying at the Anemi apartment hotel just round the corner from bar street I understand.

I dont mind paying a bit extra for meals etc and will take on board what you are saying about costs , will make my own mind up when we get there.

I,m looking forward to finding out more about cyprus as it looks a lovely island

Hi - there is a lovely Flambe restaurant at the end of Bar street, hope its still there ! Re authentic places to eat it can be difficult sometimes as even a local dish can be served with chips- (I always ask for potatoes instead of chips because the Cyprus potatoes are lovely)- and always ask the staff if they can recommend local dishes, they are usually only too pleased to advise.

Re how much to take, well we go to Greece a lot and we always add a bit more for Cyprus. There are lots of shops and supermarkets so you dont need to eat out all the time. Most places have their prices displayed outside so you will get an idea of how much a meal costs.

Enjoy, we are off again in October !
