We were at the Athena Royal, which is counted as Paphos (about 20min walk from the harbour) so both trips should still be available.

We booked thru Thomsons but there are plenty of local tour ops if you prefer to do it that way.

The eve meal is in the mountains & we hadn't realised that it would be so much cooler up there in the eve; just never entered our heads as the July days were so hot, so take something warm to put over whatever you wear as it'a outside. It's a smart / casual eve, altho a few ladies were quite glamorous; whatever you're comfortable with; certainly not collar & tie for fellas.

Description in the Thomson leaflet / price list is:

"Kick your heels Zorba style & enjoy a mezze in a local taverna". There's dancing (you join in later if you want) & a balancing act with glasses & audience participation (if you want), plenty of wine flowing & a good ambiance. A photographer will take your photo a few times. It's on Fri eves thru Thomson, 23CYP for adults & 16 for kids.

Donkey safari - we did enjoy it altho the description is a bit misleading as it sounds as tho you're on them for a couple of hrs or so, in reality, it's about 30mins. It's followed by BBQ dinner (very nice) & entertainment with some larger than life characters from the establishment. Pick up is about 3.30pm & it's quite a while b4 you get there due to faffing about, collecting others, plus you have to transfer into smaller buses as the paths top the valley are so rocky & narrow. There are welcome "nibbles" & a few things are explained. We saw a lovely 10day old donkey foal in the corale.

Half the group ride the donkeys along a trail to a medieval monastery, the other half (which we were in) travel by the small bus to catch them up then, after a tour of the monastery, which doesn't take long, you swap over & ride the donkeys back. We were glad to be in the 2nd group as the sun had sunk a little & it was more pleasant. maybe if there is a smaller group, you get to ride both ways.

The guide was a little old lady, who must be about 75, at least (I'm not kidding!) She's very sweet, but not ideal for the job (no, she didn't ride a donkey) & it was actually a Russian group's guide who looked after our group here & there too....altho her own group did insist on being at the front of the queue & some tried to ride both ways.

Because of the eccentricity of our guide & the initial faffing, plus the realisation that we were only going to be onboard for 30mins, I did wonder if we should have bothered, but it did work out ok & we did enjoy it. Would've just appreciated a better description from Thomson beforehand, in their welcome meeting & booklet.

Prices are in CYP again - Tues / Sats 36 adult or 20 for kids.

thanks for the advice, sounds good, but wonder if only having a week to use we have time for everything on offer, but it is good to know what there is so we can plan and be picky on what we decide to take up. thanks again.
