Birmingham to Ercan

We have just returned from our 6th holiday in Kyrenia. We have always traveled from Birmingham to Larnaca and the hotel has sent a car to pick us up and transport us to the hotel. Has anyone traveled from Birmingham to Ercan .Does this involve a change of aircraft or do you land at Istanbul and await onward travel to Ercan. Is this a more economical way to travel We are senior citizens and would find if difficult having to transfer to another aircraft

It does involve change of aircraft at Istanbul.

With Pegasus Airlines you usually (not always though) - stay on same plane, just wait on tarmac for people to get off and on.

Turkish Airlines usually means a change of plane at Istanbul.

We've been travelling from Birmingham to Kyrenia on a regular basis for nearly 10 years - covering most possibilities! However recently we've returned to Turkish Airlines this year flying - Bham - Istanbul - Ercan. Reasons? We're now flying outside school holidays and have been very impressed with the prices this year - all our six journeys this year have been in the £220 - £240 return fare for an adult and when you combine this with inclusive luggage up to 23kg, sociable travel times, seat selection , food and refreshments on board and good quality seat back entertainment - for us it's a no brainer - our car hire company (Baspinar) deliver the car to Ercan and of course no £100 transfer from Larnaca.

Yes you will always transfer at Istanbul - and I quite understand your anxiety. Twice this year we have been bussed from the plane to the terminal and literally had 50 yards to walk to the departure gate - but this is rare - normally you will pass from arrivals on the ground floor to departures on the first floor - it's not a short journey but the vast majority of it can be travelled via moving walkways so shouldn't be too strenuous - your baggage is transferred for you so you only have to worry about your hand luggage.

I would recommend it - but let me know if you have any more queries.

Istanbul airport is large and there can be a lot of walking. Like the other posts there are moving walkways, but if you are elderly and need assistance they have an extremely good system of movement around the airport. Just remember to book for both of you.
