Kyrenia holiday advice during pregnancy

Hi, I'm looking to arrange a short (7-8 day) holiday in September for my wife and I before we have our first child :) I'm considering Cyprus as a possible destination because it would be a relatively short flight from the UK, the weather should be good and nice beaches for a relaxing trip. However, we are muslim and I've only just realised that food-wise, Southern Cyprus won't offer us much so I've switched attention to Kyrenia.

I'm just hoping some Kyrenia experts can offer advice on how good a holiday we could have in Kyrenia as compared to Paphos and the like. We're obviously not looking for a trekky holiday or one with too much sightseeing due to my wife (she will be around 21-22 weeks) so I'd like a resort where we can relax, enjoy a nice beach, do some light activity/sightseeing involving boating etc., enjoy some nice spa/massage treatments and maybe do a little sightseeing and travel. Would Kyrenia offer us that? Would there be enough to do over 7-8 days? What would we not find there as compared to South Cyprus?

Also, if anyone has an idea of the quality of hospitals/clinics in Kyrenia in case we need to pay a visit, I'd appreciate some info.

Many thanks in advance!

There aren't 'resorts' as such in the north. You could stay in a hotel in Kyrenia, but the beaches are not in Kyrenia itself. There are hotels next to beaches, such as Deniz kizi or the Merit, but otherwise you would ideally need to drive to beaches, restaurants etc. The dolmus runs along the main coastal road, however.

There is certainly enough to do for 7-8 days, such as Bellapais abbey, St Hilarion and even the Karpas peninsula!

It is not as commercialised as southern Cyprus. I went to the south last September and found it more expensive than the north, poorer food and too commercialised for my liking. We go to the north several times a year - it's not for everyone, but is more like Spain and the European resorts used to be eg in 1960s/70s.

I would recommend a stay at the Pia Bella, Kyrenia. A lovely hotel, walking distance to the harbour, also 200m from the hospital. the dolmus passes the door, and the hotel will arrange for the it to stop and pick you up outside the Hotel . Just a lovely place to stay.

Thanks both - from the reading I've done I did get exactly the picture that lanzafan painted of North Cyprus which wouldn't actually be a bad thing but I just didn't want it to be too "basic". I've seen mention of the Pia Bella in a few places actually and that does sound ideal for us so I will read up a bit more about it.

So in terms of spa/massage treatments and boat tours - would we find any of that in or near Kyrenia or is that only South Cyprus? Would we need a rental car to get around?

The Pia Bella is a nice hotel but no Spa facilities AND is already full 4th september - 12th October , Denizkizi too is full in September. Acapulco Beach club has a stunning beach and Spa facilities http://www.acapulco-cyprus.com/

Boat trips from the Harbour are around £ 10 a head and Include Lunch , The dolmus (shared mini buses) are cheap, but not door to door and perhaps not best for your wife, car hire is cheap and good driving conditions here, this company constantly gets good reviews http://www.pacific-rentals.com/
