I took my wife to The Ambiance for her birthday and arranged a cake beforehand via email. On the evening we had a great table sitting on the deck which sits over the sea. At the appointed moment the background music was turned down and all the waiters brought a cake out and sang Happy Birthday to her. To add to that the food was really good as well as the nice surprise.

For July , I would second the recommendation for Bellapais and the Kybele Restaurant much cooler in the village and far less humid, If you make a reservation at the Restaurant they will send a complimentary taxi to your Hotel and return (approx 20 min drive).

Ambience is too a lovely restaurant with a stunning setting, but not as cooling as Bellapais.

I was unsure how far out the "free" return transport would go, so I didn't mention it.

For something completely unique you could hire a car and drive to Karpaz and spend the night in a wooden beach hut on golden sands, looking at the stars and moon over the sea. Only appeals if you are into nature and don't mind roughing it a bit, not many places in the world you can still do it. He wouldn't forget that birthday ;O)

Beach bungalows at Tatlisu are the best we've found. It's not too far from Catalkoy. They are run by the Municipality and the restaurant there is ok.too. They are extremely comfortable and have air con. The others we have stayed in were a bit primitive by comparison and the setting is lovely I've often seen weddings there.
